Out in the dark
Out in the Dark explores the difficult and complex love story between an Israeli and a Palestinian. Nimer, who is from Ramallah, fights for a better future and gets a visa to pursue his Psychology degree in Tel Aviv. In a bar he meets Roy, a young Israeli lawyer from a wealthy family. Their mutual attraction is instant, but the political and military situation will dangerously complicate their lives, and threaten Nimer with deportation, while Roy will have to fight his family and the system to defend his partner.
Without getting too deep into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, director Michael Mayer offers an exceptional first feature film. He shows us the difficult love story between to young men who try to stay away from a very complex geopolitical environment, by creating a sensitive and realistic love story halfway between a thriller and a social drama.
