Katja, 43, and Isabella, 37, are married and decide to have a child. They want to do it with a sperm donor for Isabel, a donor who will not act as a father. They enter in a complicated world, since in Germany same-sex couples cannot use most sperm banks or fertility clinics. Finally, they find a doctor willing to help and they begin a very expensive course of treatment. Time passes and nothing happens. Katja wants to leave everything, realising how the situation has affected the couple and their finances, but Isabel resists and, after buying a do-it-yourself insemination kit from the Internet, they find many candidates willing to play the game, sometimes with unforeseen conditions... With a very sensible approach, this film, based on the director's experiences, addresses with an almost documentary realism one of the most controversial issues in Western societies: the rights of same-sex couples to use artificial insemination to have children.
