OPENING NIGHT
W imie...
Poland might be considered the European country where the Catholic Church has had the most influence over its people, and that is why this film is so valuable. After the success of her previous work, Elles (with Juliette Binoche), the director Malgoska Szumowska returns with a depiction of the soul of a man trapped in a moral dilemma. His treatment of his subject matter, with respect, sensitivity and realism, earned him the Teddy Award for Best Picture at last year's Berlinale.

Adam has a religious calling at age 21 and becomes an ordained priest. His faith is tested when he is sent to an isolated, rural village with young, social misfits. He believes that his most intimate desires can be repressed until he meets Dynia, and his resolve begins to fall apart.
