The Summer of Sangaile
We can only be impressed by the fact that Lithuania presented this film at the Oscars in Hollywood. This intimate, subtle, independent movie tells the story of a summer love affair between two teenage girls. Something is changing in Eastern European film and society.

Through the metaphor of acrobatic flights and the fear of flying, the director Alanté Kavaïte narrates a delicate story in which, one summer, Sangailé, a girl fascinated by airplanes but too frightened ever to board one, meets Auste, attractive, daring and free, who helps her, through the most intimate feelings – the desire for freedom, understanding and friendship - to lose her fear of flying, to express herself, to be herself. A heart-warming, joyous film.
