SHORT FILMS: MARICONES HASTA EL FINAL
Alfonso de Sierra, Lluis Escribano, Ramón Massa, Ces Martí and Enric Bentz were Els 5 QKs, a group of filmmakers who, in 1975, teamed up to create a unique, avant-garde, transgressive cinema that broke with the social, religious and political conventions of the time, making “fags” (maricones in Spanish; words like gay and homosexual were not much used in those days) the protagonists, the heroes: proud, shameless, above good and evil… Absolute pleasure as identity.

An amateur filmmaker becomes obsessed with an attractive boy, pursuing him with his camera, day and night. A short film that focuses on the director’s relentless pursuit of perfection and beauty.

Love, fantasy and legend are rarely found in the films of Els 5 QK’s, and that is what makes Aranprunyà so special. This is a poetic short in which our hero reaches the ruins of a castle to discover that, in his past life, he was once a passionate princess.

One of the masterpieces made by Els 5 QK’s. Two terrible heroines, Alexandra del Lago (Sweet Bird of Youth) and Blanca del Bosque (A Streetcar Named Desire), brilliantly portrayed by Luis and Ces, meet due to a road accident and team up to play a macabre game in which they seem determined to destroy everything that these filmmakers hated: rules of style, social norms and sexual conventions.

The director Ricardo González presents an exclusive preview of his documentary about these brave filmmakers, currently in postproduction, at FIRE!! In Maricones, the filmmaker not only reviews the group’s production, but also the members’ lives and deaths, their struggles, their loves, the harsh environment they confronted and the reasons for their break-up, why they stopped making films and distanced themselves from the world they lived in.
