The Look of… The French Cinema
The director's love for Johan is so immense and he misses him so much while he's in prison that he decides to recreate him in a film that is a search of the main character as a mythological creature seen by others. A wild and very 70s movie that explores with certain carnal abandon the more sordid aspects of Paris gay life, where aesthetic references such as Fassbinder and Warhol are mixed, besides certain erotic blunders between sadomasochism and naiveté.
Johan is the cinematic construction of a summer desire, an empty and honest memory. A great finding.
