Mo is a teenager raised in a traditional Egyptian family, but beyond the door of the modest London flat where he lives with his parents and his elder brother lies a completely different world: the streets of Hackney. Mo idolises his brother, Rashid, a charismatic and crafty member of a local gang, and wants to follow in his footsteps. However, Rashid looks forward to a different and better life for Mo.
My Brother the Devil is the stunning debut of director Sally El Hosaini, who relates with maximum respect the difficulties of accepting your sexuality in an environment as hostile as a London working-class neighbourhood defined by drugs, social exclusion and violence. The film has won awards at both the Berlin Fim Festival and the Sundance Festival in 2012.
