Set in today's Iran, Facing Mirrors is the story of an unusual and daring friendship that grows despite the strict social rules and religious believes. Rana, a traditional mother, is forced to become a taxi driver to pay for her husband's debt, who is in jail. By chance, she picks up Eddie, who is being chased by two men. Eddie, a quite rebellious young man loaded with money, is desperately waiting for a passport that lets him leave the country. At the beginning, Rana tries to help him, but when she realizes that Eddie is transgender a serious conflict erupts. Eddie is running away for her father, who has planned a wedding for "her" with a young man, and is also looking to leave the country and have sex-reassignment surgery. During this road movie, Rana and Eddie, so different in social background and religious beliefs, will start to understand what lies beneath each other's appearances. The first feature film by Iranian director Negar Azarbayjani, Facing Mirrors is also the first Iranian movie with a transgender character in a starring role.
